Eric J. Levett
Rockdale County Sheriff

Sheriff Levett was born, raised, and currently lives in Rockdale County, Georgia.  At the young age of 14, he had a passion for law enforcement and was eager to be a part of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Explorer Program.  Sheriff Levett served as a volunteer Explorer from 1988 to 1992.  In 1991, Sheriff Levett began working in the E911 Center of the Sheriff’s Office.  In 1992, after graduating from Rockdale County High School, he was hired to work full-time in the Communications Center as an E911 dispatcher.

After briefly serving his community as a dispatcher, Sheriff Levett became a certified Detention Deputy in the Rockdale County Jail, and later became a peace officer, assuming the role of Deputy Sheriff.  In addition to working at the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Levett has worked in law enforcement at the Conyers Housing Authority, as well as other area law enforcement agencies.  This has given Sheriff Levett a different perspective on how other organizations and law enforcement agencies operate and conduct business.  Sheriff Levett has worked as a Community-oriented Policing Services (COPS) Deputy, School Resource Officer (SRO) and as an Investigator.  In addition, Sheriff Levett has served in supervisory positions as Corporal and Sergeant. Prior to taking a leave of absence to campaign for the Office of Sheriff, he was a supervisor assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Office.  Sheriff Levett was sworn in as the Rockdale County Sheriff by Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Carol W. Hunstein on December 30, 2012, and he assumed office on January 1, 2013.

Sheriff Levett is a graduate of the Columbus State University Professional Management Program, and is currently enrolled at Thomas University, where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Sheriff Levett has been married for 16 years to his wife, Lavette.  They have been blessed with two children, Christian and Colin.  The Sheriff and his family are members of Springfield Baptist Church in Conyers.

Sheriff Levett is an active member of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association and represents Georgia’s sheriffs on the Area 7 (metropolitan Atlanta area) All-Hazards Council.  Sheriff Levett is also a member in the Rotary Club of Conyers, Leadership Rockdale Class of 2014, and Atlanta Metropol.
